Karen Scott (Vordingborg/Denmark) - Quality Standards in the Child and Youth Care System in Denmark

Karen Scott (born 1959) is at present working as a consultant, supervisor, coach and controller of residential care units in the region of Zealand/Denmark. After she accomplished her degree in Socialpedagogy in 1990, she worked in various areas such as kindergardens, nurseries, day-care centres, residential care units and a crisis centre for teenagers. She is specialized in the work with sexually traumatised children, family treatment, drug use, abuse and dependency, etc. Further more she has some project experience in the work with ethnical minority families and investigational social work within these families.

In the year of 2000 she finished her M. A. degree in Comparative European Social Studies at Hogeschool Zuyd in Maastricht. She worked there for three years for a private member organisation which developed an accreditation model for private residential units.

Karen Scott will focus in her speech on the child and youth care sector in Denmark. She will give a general introduction to Denmark as well as the structure and general organization of the various approaches in the work with children and youth people in Denmark. After all she will talk about questions of quality standards in the field of residential child care, mainly within the private sector. Karen Scott will give the presentation in English.
