Andrew Hosie will give a presentation on the issue of "Caring for children and young people who are looked after living away from their home in Scotland". He was invited by the Faculty of Social Work which will start from now on with continuous invitations of guest from abroad. The Faculty of Social Work wants to give students the opportunity to get to know social work from an international perspective and in order to train their language skills. The presentation will be financed by student fees and it will be presented in English.

Andrew Hosie (MSc, CQSW, PgCSWE) is a lecturer in the Scottish Institute for Residential Child Care based in the National Office at Jordanhill Campus of Strathclyde University in Glasgow. He has been in the University for 18 years and he is a member of the University Ethics Committee. At the University of Strathclyde he is also the Course Director in Advanced Professional Studies.

He has work experience as a residential child care worker, in fieldwork and in training with an interest in in work with young people who offend. His work focuses on good quality of care for children and young people. Last but not least he is the General Secretary of an international organization for child and youth care, the Fédération Internationale des Communautés Éducatives (FICE).

The presentation will be very special because Scotland is the only country which developed a national list of standards for children and young people who live in residential care institutions which was established by professionals and young people to-gether. The “Standards of Care” recognize the needs and the rights of the child in a way which should be by example for other countries.

All students and guests from social work agencies, administration and politics are invited! We are looking forward to your visit!

The German translation of the “Scottish Standards of Care” can be downloaded in preparation of the presentation!
